7-speed DKG: MINI F55, F56, F57, with a dual-clutch transmission

Prior to your Facelift, the MINI-models, F56, F57, and F55 to get a new gearbox: 7-speed DCT from Getrag replaced in the MINI One and MINI Cooper D to the previously offered six-speed automatic and will result in significant efficiency benefits. Together with the dual-clutch transmission, a new gear-selector lever feeder that looks more modern and sportier than the existing variant.

The 7-speed DCT enables gear changes without interruption of traction, because the two sub-transmissions in a common housing. Two oil-cooled wet clutches are the core of the system and connect the two sub-transmission. In the case of a gear change under load is a simultaneous Opening of the one and the other clutch extremely fast switching Close operations without Traction interruption. So also in the case of slower gear changes, the usual load-changing reactions. It is, of course, that the driver may select the characteristics of the transmission and thus of gear changes via the gear lever – from the ordinary to Drive in D mode on sporty Driving in S mode to the manual gear change in the mode M.

Just like in many other models of the BMW Group and is used for the switching strategy of the 7-speed DCT navigation data by MINI Connected. The vehicle is a sharp curve or an intersection is approaching, the gearbox will be informed at an early stage so that you can insert a lower gear, the engine drag to take advantage of the moment for the upcoming delay. In the case of sporty driving on winding roads unnecessary switching can be avoided operations in order to make an extra gear change in the expected acceleration on corner exit superfluous.

When driving slowly in city traffic and when Parking and Manoeuvring the MINI-DKG goes into a comfortable creep function, which facilitates smooth Starting. In the lower Rev range, a dual mass flywheel increases with integrated centrifugal pendulum-type absorber, the vibration and acoustic comfort. Thanks to the Auto-Start-stop function, coasting function, and of course, the seventh step, the DCT also helps that the MINI One and MINI Cooper D will consume noticeably less fuel than in combination with the previously used six-speed automatic – whether as a three-door, five-door hatchback or convertible.
