Philipp, what was know your first reaction when you that you to 2018 DTM?
Philipp Eng: “I couldn’t believe it in the first place – and, honestly, I can’t believe it is still correct. The DTM has accompanied me in my career for a long time because I went there for a few years in the framework of series and also in the past two years, for BMW, often in the context of the series. My dream was always to drive the BMW M4 DTM. I had fulfilled me with my Test. I am now a regular driver, is incredible.“

Talk to the DTM Young Driver Test, which you experience in the BMW M4 DTM have collected. How’d it go there?
Eng: “It was an incredible experience. The vehicle has impressed me extremely. Especially the brakes and the aerodynamics of the BMW M4 DTM are not to be compared with a GT car. Also the great professionalism of the team and the BMW experience engineers on this project, impressed me very much.“

What are your expectations for your first DTM season?
Eng: “it is clear to Me that the level in the DTM is so high as perhaps in no other race series. Accordingly, the challenge for me. But as the saying goes: You grow with your tasks. RenĂ© Rast has proven in the past year with his title win, that even for a newcomer in the DTM, nothing is impossible. I am looking forward to 2018, and living my dream.“

Your so far greater success in sports, as a BMW factory driver for the victory at the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps was…
Eng: “In any case. To celebrate a great success in my first year after returning to BMW, was fantastic. When we came to Spa, we were not able to be expected given the strength of our opponents with the victory. We knew we had a good package, but for the really big victory, you always need a little bit of luck. We had in this case.“

They went in of the 2017 season until the end of the drivers ‘ title in the ADAC GT Masters, but it was only at the end. How is your Season summary?
Eng: “I think we have presented to us as BMW Team Schnitzer very well. At the resonance on the ground and in social networks we could see that we had a lot of Fans on our page. With the victory in Oschersleben we had, of course, the perfect kick-off, and even then we were still a couple of Times on the Podium. Ultimately, the weak, the weekend has thrown us in Zandvoort is crucial. At the Finale in Hockenheim, my chances were only theoretical. A victory in the last race would have been nice, but it should not unfortunately be.“

You are risks as an all-rounder for almost all current BMW racing cars, the BMW M8 GTE. What is the most fun?
Eng: “I am, in fact, the BMW M4 DTM, the BMW M8 GTE, BMW M6 GT3 and the BMW M4 GT4 dangers – and all to make your way fun. The BMW M4 DTM compromise brings lots of driving characteristics. The BMW M8 GTE has developed in the course of the Tests, which I was very positive. Particularly impressive I find his Sound. In the BMW M6 GT3 I have spent in the last two years, both in races as well as in testing most of the time. He has for a GT car a lot of downforce and power, especially on the Nordschleife and in Spa-Francorchamps a lot of fun. The BMW M4 GT4 is not, of course, in competition to the previously mentioned vehicles, but also drive great and from my point of view, the perfect customer car for privateers.“

What memories do you have of your time in the formula BMW?
Eng: “Actually, only good. I learned a lot. More I could not have imagined. I had the good fortune to be at the same time, BMW and Red Bull sponsored. In 2006, I started well, but was a little too cocky and I lost the Rookie standings in my current BMW colleague Jens klingmann. In the year after that, I pulled again against Jens, the Shorter, was able to return the favor but in the formula BMW world final in Valencia. I won ahead of Marco Wittmann and Jens Klingmann and a Test in a formula 1 car.“

Another Highlight of your career?
Eng: “it’s been almost ten years, but I can still remember it very well. For an 18-Year-old I have mastered quite well, I think. The feeling back then was similar to now in the BMW M4 DTM, only that the brakes, aerodynamics and weight in the formula 1 car were even more extreme. Today, it is still nice to look at the pictures of the formula 1 Cockpit.“

How did you get into Motorsport?
Eng: “On to the go-kart track in Ampfing. She was been re-opened, and after the go-karting in the hall had become too boring, we drove the 90 kilometers from Salzburg there. At some point, we have taken us there, even an apartment, because we were out every weekend since.“

How would you describe your character in three words?
Eng: “Pedantic, so extremely in love with detail. Sometimes, unfortunately, impatient, and always focused.“

What was your best and worst Moment in Motorsport?
Eng: “The best Moment of the signature under my BMW works driver contract. You see, what Made me this signature. Worst of all was to have at the age of 16 years, the support by Red Bull lost. It was not entitled, because I was just good enough, but still, a world collapsed for me. My parents did not have the financial resources, in order to promote my career without help, so I was stuck only once. But then, I’ve learned that it always works out somehow.“

What would you have done if it hadn’t worked out with the racing?
Eng: “A Professional Cyclist. I spend a lot of time on the road bike, and I enjoy it incredibly much. Meanwhile, I have pretty good contacts in the professional Cycling. So I had a Plan B, I don’t need but fortunately.“
