DTM 2018: BMW-pick up pilots two podium at the Nürburgring

Also at the Nürburgring, it is not managed BMW Motorsport, the much-needed reversal of the trend to initiate in the DTM, 2018. Although the BMW M4 DTM was well on the way, went to the Siege again to the other: Both on Saturday and on Sunday Audi driver René Rast was able to celebrate the victory and impressively collect points. In the drivers ‘ standings, Rast was able to advance to the third place, with 149 points, but still clearly behind the two leading Mercedes pilot Gary Paffett (206) and Paul di Resta (204).

In the overall standings, Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock are still the best-placed BMW drivers. Wittmann drove on Saturday on the fifth and on Sunday on the third place – solid results, but not enough for a comeback in the direction of the tip. Timo Glock was on Saturday the fourth, but was able to pick up on Sunday with no points. The most points for the BMW caught at the Nurburgring, Bruno Spengler, was on his second place on Saturday, also rank four on Sunday follow.

Two week, it seems that Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta make up the driver’s championship among themselves before the conclusion. In the manufacturers ‘ standings, Mercedes was not able to collect this weekend as many points as BMW and Audi, but with 801 points, the Stuttgarter have a virtually unassailable advantage: BMW collected until 531, and even Audi only 365 points in the previous season.

Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director): “Marco Wittmann has worked today well to the front and was rewarded with a place on the podium. To have five cars in the Top 8, overall, this is a great result for BMW. Of course, we would have been to place two of Bruno Spengler on Saturday to be really at the top of the Podium. All in all, we can be with the race weekend here at the Nürburgring, but definitely satisfied. In the 100. To race after our DTM Comeback in 2012 on the Podium and take some good points, is very positive. Congratulations this time to René Rast, who has shown this weekend with the ‘Clean-Sweep’ is a very strong performance. Even away from the race it was an exciting weekend At the BMW M Motorsport Days we have with BMW M, many guests from all over the world inspire. Another Highlight is the journey of our new BMW M4 DTM on the Nordschleife on Sunday morning. Now we let the ‘Green hell’ is behind us, and prepare us with enthusiasm and meticulousness to the race in Spielberg.”

Stefan Reinhold (team principal, BMW Team RMG): “for the First time thanks to our Nürburgring. At our home race and 100. Race for BMW to retract a Podium, is very nice. A big thank you to our entire Team and of course to Marco Wittmann. He is today a great race. At the Moment, we fight our way back to the front and look from the evening to the next race. There we will give everything again. Still, it was overall a good weekend. Our friends and family were completely satisfied.“

Marco Wittmann (#11 BMW Driving Experience, the M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG – Qualifying result: 9. Place Race Result: 3. Place, points: 137): “Our goal was to go from the start space nine, as far as possible to the front. It worked. Of course you want to be at the home race of his team at the very top, but René Rast has just done a good Job. Especially in the initial phase, we have a little lost the connection. The first part of the race was extremely turbulent. I was always in an awkward Position and I lost my spot to Paul di Resta. Then I was able to work me piece by piece to the front. From the incident between Timo Glock and Lucas Auer, we have benefited, of course, all of this somehow. Overall, I am with place absolutely satisfied. I had a clean race and was close to the top of it.“

Augusto Farfus (#15 Shell BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG – Qualifying result: 13. Place Race Result: 7. Place, points: 48): “With the result, I am satisfied. From my starting position I was not able to make much more. We had a strong race pace, the car ran well. But we need to improve in Qualifying if we want to end up in the race to the front. Seventh place is OK, but we still have some work ahead of us.“

Timo Glock (#16 DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR – Qualifying result: 4. Place Race Result: 16. Place, points: 119): “It is a great pity, because I think we had a good base with the car. The Start was good, it was a Fight with Gary Paffett in the first round. After that, I was apparently a little too optimistic in terms of the maneuver against Lucas Auer. It is a false assessment of me. Sorry to Lucas for that – and sorry to my guys.“

Bart Mampaey (team principal, BMW Team RBM): “firstly, congratulations to René Rast to this perfect weekend. He got 56 points, which is really extraordinary. In the end, we had a good weekend. In the second race we came in on the places four, six and eight with three cars in the points. At the Start a lot was going on. I think we have held up well. I would like to thank BMW and the Team for all the hard work. After Misano we have made a further step forward. So it should go to Spielberg.“

Philipp Eng (#25 SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR – Qualifying result: 3. Place Race Result: 8. Place, points: 92): “I am, in any case, with our Qualifying Performance is very satisfied. Twice we had the pole position on the feet. But in the race we need to improve us significantly. If you start as far to the front, then you want to take away even more points. Hopefully I succeed and then my home race in Spielberg.“

Bruno Spengler (#7 BMW Bank M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM – Qualifying result: 8. Place Race Result: 4. Place, points: 75): “It was a good comeback. The Start went well, and in the race itself, we were also good. The car was not quite as good as yesterday. I had a few more problems with the Balance in the course of the race. We need to analyze. But I think that we have made from eighth place to fourth place is a good step forward. So I’m very happy, and take this positive result in the next race.“

Joel Eriksson (#47 BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM – Qualifying result: 10. Place Race Result: 6. Place, points: 60): “I think it was a really good race. Our Pace was great. The first Stint went very well. And also during the pit stop the guys did a great Job again. We were the Fastest. In the second Stint, everything went smoothly. I tried to overtake Gary Paffett, but that was simply not possible. But on the other hand, place six is a super result, we have collected important points. Overall, it was for BMW a good weekend.“
