Also on the penultimate weekend of the DTM 2018 BMW could not go Motorsport to the hoped-for counter-strike. In Spielberg, it was showed instead of the Audi RS 5, which has secured both wins and both BMW and Mercedes tail lights. René Rast was able to expand its strong series in the final race with two Wins in Austria is impressive and has earned the Chance to upset the Mercedes Party at the season finale in Hockenheim.

The BMW drivers were able to see the top in both races from the distance. On Saturday picked up Marco Wittmann, Philipp Eng and Augusto Farfus in a total of 300. BMW DTM-race on the stands 7, 8, and 10, at least some points for the team standings. On Sunday, Joel Eriksson drove the best-placed BMW on the 5-Position to the finish, Timo Glock and Philip followed Closely on the ranks 7 and 9. So BMW brought in Austria 32 points, while Audi downsized with 118 points, the gap in the manufacturer standings. While the title for BMW are in any case inaccessible, could lose in Munich in Hockenheim, so the second rank of the manufacturer.

Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director): “Our drivers had to fight hard for their points. More than the positions five, seven and nine were not overall, unfortunately. Joel Eriksson drove a very solid and consistent race. He could go with the Speed of the Mercedes in front of him to some extent, however, it was not enough to Attack. Timo Glock got off to a great Start, then remained but stuck in traffic. Also, on the strategy, we could not bring it further forward. Philipp Eng has developed with a strong Finish the two points, also hard. We had hoped for more here. Now we will be focused on Hockenheim prepare to get in the season finale once again Top results. Congratulations to Mercedes for winning the constructors ‘ standings – and René Rast to victory.“

Stefan Reinhold (team principal, BMW Team RMG): “the result of Timo Glock, we can be reasonably satisfied. He has, at least, can collect points. After the difficult Qualifying we can fight with Marco Wittmann and Augusto Farfus to the front. Augusto was the first to be pushed, and got, following technical problems. The extent to which, we need to look at. We will now continue to fight to be in Hockenheim again a lot of points.“

Marco Wittmann (#11 BMW Driving Experience, the M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG – Qualifying result: 17. Place Race Result: 14. Place, points: 143): “We didn’t have today, simply the Performance to ride in the Top 10. After the Qualifying we have stopped in the race early and on a Safety-Car Phase of speculation. The not came. So our chances were on a front placement. Overall, it was a disappointing day. Now it goes to Hockenheim, where I want the season forgiving to complete.“

Augusto Farfus (#15 Shell BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMG – Qualifying result: 16. Place race result: failure points: 50): “The Start was generally quite orderly. Then we had a technical Problem which is probably connected with a previous two fight together. It is a great pity that we had to give up prematurely, but it would anyway not have been very much possible.“

Timo Glock (#16 DEUTSCHE POST BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR – Qualifying result: 7. Place Race Result: 7. Place, points: 127): “I actually had a very good Start, was stuck in the first corner something in the scramble, and lost positions. After that, my Speed was quite okay, but the top was too fast. In the end, we must be quite content with seventh place.“

Bart Mampaey (team principal, BMW Team RBM): “For Joel Eriksson, it was a good race, after the day had started with a strong Qualifying. He was able to maintain its Position. We had to stop a good pit, and Joel has made it to the exit, round a good Job. Congratulations to him and the entire Team. Philipp Eng completed the good team result with its points of placement. However, we must continue to work on our Pace.“

Philipp Eng (#25 SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RMR – Qualifying result: 10. Place Race Result: 9. Place, points: 98): “I’m with my Speed, especially in the second Stint very satisfied. I have worked with the Team since the Nürburgring weekend hard to improve my tyre management in the race. That has paid off extremely. Unfortunately, I got previously for my collision with Lucas Auer a penalty, although I was pushed and nothing could make.“

Bruno Spengler (#7 BMW Bank M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM – Qualifying result: 15. Place Race Result: 15. Place, points: 75): “In Turn three, I had a bit of bad luck and had to brake, because two or three cars in front of me touched. As a result, I’ve lost a lot of places, although my Start was very good. After that, it was not to overtake, of course, simply because all were able to use their DRS. We now need to analyze what we look at Hockenheim so that all of the BMW are already in the Qualifying round to the front. Then the race is different.“

Joel Eriksson (#47 BMW M4 DTM, BMW Team RBM – Qualifying result: 6. Place Race Result: 5. Place, points: 70): “I am with my race and the result is very satisfied. Today, we have made the most of our opportunities. It was not easy to manage the tyres properly. In the end it worked and we were able to collect good points for me and the Team.“
