Mercedes EQC: electric SUV on the GLC-based mid-2019

For many years Mercedes-Benz has shown studies and of the future spoke, and now the Stuttgart-based with the EQC in fact, your first series-built electric car on the road. The electric SUV is based on the Mercedes GLC, and thus plays in the same vehicle class as the BMW iX3, the 2020 come on the market. The proximity between the EQC and GLC is from some angles, especially the Front and rear present, but very independent and pointed to the completely different drive technology.

While the BMW iX3 sets with an output of around 200 kW (272 HP) and a 70 kWh large Lithium-ion battery for many people to reach, and more for everyday life than for a sports car-comparisons of appropriate technology package for the Stuttgart-based in to their first work with big Numbers: Mercedes EQC 400 comes with one electric motor at the front and rear axle on a system output of 300 kW or 408 HP, thus, the 2.4-ton SUV accelerates in 5.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h, which is in the principal markets of the GLC with a view to the valid speed limits, no restriction.

The 650-kilogram Lithium-ion battery in the floor of the Mercedes EQC offers a capacity of 80 kWh. Under the unrealistic conditions of the no longer valid NEDC, it should provide for a range of over 450 kilometers. Thanks to water-cooled on-Board charger, the Mercedes EQC can be loaded with up to 110 kW, if a corresponding DC-charging station is available. Here, the battery can be charged within 40 minutes from 10 to 80 percent. In everyday life, with a power socket or a Wallbox at home, the charging time is naturally much longer.

On a realistic Range, we will have to wait a little: As, BMW brought out around five years ago, the i3 on the market, were between the NEDC and practice-indication of about 20 percent. Also according to today’s relevant and clear, practical WLTP cycle the specified range of electric cars drops significantly, and in the case of the iX3 400 kilometers of the WLTP reach the developers of the languages alone, the new cycle of 100 kilometers, less reach on the paper.

Dieter Zetsche (CEO of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars): “With the EQC as the first all-electric SUV from Mercedes-Benz, we throw the switch. The E-drive is an important building block of the mobility of the future. Therefore, we invest in the next few years, more than ten billion euros in new EQ products and over a billion in the battery production.”

Ola Källenius (in the Board of management of Daimler AG responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development): “The new EQC is a true Mercedes-Benz. This is especially true for classic virtues such as quality, safety, and comfort. Add to that the high driving dynamics thanks to two electric motors on front and rear axle with a combined 300 kW of power and an intelligent operating strategy for a sovereign electric range. The EQC is part of a growing family of purely electrically driven vehicles at Mercedes-Benz.”

Britta Seeger (in the Board of management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars, sales): “‘Electric now has a Mercedes‘ – with the EQC, we bring the first Mercedes‑Benz our new product and technology – brand EQ on the road. EQ stands for “Electric Intelligence” and represents Mercedes-Benz in its most progressive Form. We implement Human-centered Innovation, by thinking smart Services and networked charging solutions for our customers.”
