September 2018: BMW bucking the Trend and increasing sales

At the conclusion of the third quarter, BMW was able to increase its global sales in September 2018 0.8 percent to 200.710 units. While most brands had to fight to pay with in part significant declines in the sale, could sell the Munich-based the Trend to oppose, and in spite of the switch to WLTP, and other challenges more vehicles than in the same month last year.

MINI is 265.935 vehicles sold 2.0 percent in the Minus. Rolls-Royce increased sales by Q3 2018 13.5 per cent to 2.659 luxury vehicles. With -0.8 percent on the level of the previous year, the BMW Motorrad has been able to sell 126.793 two wheels moves.

A large share of the success by Q3 2018, the BMW 5-series G30/G31, sales of which increased by 14.9 percent to 286.180 units. Even more, sales of the BMW X3, whose 132.478 units correspond to a Plus of 15.3 per cent. Furthermore, clear increases, there is also the electric cars and Plug-in hybrids: sales grew in September by 35 percent to 14.559 units. Since the beginning of the year, sales of vehicles increased with electrified drive even by 42 per cent to 97.543 units.

Regionally, the September 2018 was mixed: While the BMW Group sales in Europe declined by 4.9 percent, Asia is expected to grow by 4.1 percent. America reports an increase of 2.2 percent. Since the beginning of the year, the sales figures in Europe on the level of the previous year, in Asia and America, while slight gains were achieved.

Pieter Nota (member of the Board of management of BMW AG, responsible for sales and brand BMW): “in Spite of meeting extraordinary challenges, we have achieved a stable Sales performance. The third quarter was marked in Europe of market distortions caused by the introduction of the new WLTP test procedure at the beginning of September. Since we had planned the WLTP conversion at an early stage and completed virtually all of our current models WLTP-type-tested and available.
Noteworthy is the continued growth in unit sales of our electrified vehicles. In this September we have delivered so many electrified vehicles than in any month previously, and with a delivery increase of over 40% since the beginning of the year, we remain on course to achieve our target of 140,000 electrified vehicles until the end of the year.”
